Adam Sheppard, a renowned para-athletics coach and retired wheelchair racer, has dedicated his life to excelling in sports and inspiring others. Born with Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus, Adam has been a wheelchair user since the age of three. His journey in sports began early, with competitive swimming and wheelchair basketball, before he found his true calling in wheelchair track and road racing.
Adam's racing career took him across Australia and around the world, where he set numerous Australian athletics records and represented his country with distinction. His leadership and achievements were recognized when he was honored with the Australian Sports Medal for Services to Sport.
Despite his success in racing, Adam's passion for sports didn't stop there. At 41, he decided to take up powerlifting, reaching out to his friend Leigh for coaching. Adam's enthusiasm and dedication quickly paid off, as he fell in love with the sport during his first para powerlifting competition and eagerly looks forward to future competitions.
In addition to his athletic pursuits, Adam has been an active member of the disabled community, participating in various sports, committees, and advocacy groups. His commitment to improving the lives of others through sport and personal development is unwavering.
Recently, Adam made the significant decision to undergo bilateral amputation to enhance his quality of life after years of dealing with poor circulation in his feet. This decision reflects his resilience and determination to overcome challenges and continue living life to the fullest.
Adam Sheppard's journey is a powerful testament to the impact of perseverance, adaptability, and a positive mindset. His story inspires others to pursue their passions and discover their purpose, regardless of the obstacles they may face.
